Chapter 1: Connection

It was a mess. Like nothing I had ever seen before. It has to be a dream. It has to be! This can’t be real! I just witnessed what no one should have to. I told her to be careful. I shouldn’t have brought her here. This is my fault. I knew this would happen. But… how.. How was she moving?! She should be dead! No person should survive injuries so gruesome. It was a borderline execution.

I could only stare. I just fell, butt to concrete. I keep trying to scoot backwards, away from all of this. Though, something about it was mesmerizing. She just loomed over everyone. She held Trizy by the neck, lifting him up. She began squeezing and Trizy screamed. I immediately closed my eyes to not see what was happening. I wish it wasn’t happening.

I didn’t expect that out of her. When I first met her she wasn’t like this. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was working at the coffee shop next to my school. Bussing tables was not fun but I got a reasonable amount of money. Enough to pay for the things I liked. That's when the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen walked in. I don’t think I've ever stared at someone that much.

She was pretty short. Her hair was jet black and fell past her waist. She had icy blue eyes. Though, I found it strange that she had four beauty marks, two under each eye. They were symmetrical. She was wearing a light brown sweater and a white skirt.

I feel like a creep just knowing all of this. It was just so bizarre. There was something about her. I felt drawn to her.

When I made sure that no one was around to hear me embarrass myself and after she sat down. I went up to her. She had ordered a small coffee and a blueberry muffin. The table she sat at had papers scattered everywhere. I assume it's school work.

“Good afternoon.” She put down the muffin and looked up at me. I was caught off guard by her talking first.

“Oh um,” I cleared my throat. She looked back down at the papers and began organizing them.

“I, uh, saw you walk in. I just wanted to ask you,” I looked at her papers, they were in a different language. It was really strange.

“Yes?” She spoke softly and looked back up.

“Have we met before?” She seemed shocked when I asked her. But then she smiled.

“No,” She stood up. “But I have been looking for you.” She began walking towards the door. I just stepped back. I tried processing what she said. I wanted to know more. No, I needed to know more.

I immediately ran to the back of the coffee shop and hung up my apron.

“I'm clocking out!” I yelled to my coworker, Mela.
“Yup!” I saw her give me a thumbs up from an office in the back.

I ran out of the building. Looking both ways trying to find the girl. I noticed her turn a corner and I followed.

“Wait up! I still need to talk to you!” I shouted. I was running as fast as I could and it seemed like I still couldn't catch up. As I turned the corner I slowed down, noticing she stood at the end of an alleyway. I slowly walked up behind her.

“H-hey, umm…” I reached for her shoulder. She turned around incredibly fast. It was like one second she was looking away from me and I blinked and now we’re making eye contact. She smiled.

“You stutter quite a lot. You seem very hesitant when you speak. That’s something you should improve.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

“I’m sorry, it's just what you’re telling me is really confusing. You’ve been looking for me? Who are you?” My mind was all over the place.

She pulled out a phone and looked at it.

“Woah! Look at the time! I think it’s best if you wake up now.” She gave me a soft smile.

“Wake up?” I stepped back.

“Yep!” She snapped her fingers.

Suddenly, I shot up, sitting straight up on a couch. I could feel like I was drenched in sweat. I looked around to see Mela kneeling beside me.

“Dude, are you good?!” She looked at me with concern.

“I-It was a dream?” I looked at my hands. Mela opened a water bottle and handed it to me.

“Bro, whatever that dream was, it had you way upset. I mean you were sweating like crazy and you were mumbling.” Mela stood up with her hands on her hips. She sighed.

“How did we get here?” I rubbed my face, trying to comprehend what happened.

“You passed out!” Mela said.

“What? How?!”

“Yeah! You ran to the back. You were visibly upset about something and why I tried to ask you, you just fell to the floor.”

“Huh…”

“Oh don’t you “huh” me! Is this normal? You know you can get in trouble for lying about medical stuff like that!”

“No, it's not normal. Never once in my life have I passed out or fainted.”

“Well, did you do anything that might make you pass out?” Mela rubbed the bridge of her nose. I just shook my head. Mela sighed and sat down in the chair next to me. She leaned her head and closed her eyes. We sat in silence for what seemed like hours.

“By the way,” Mela said. “Did you tattoo those weird dots on your face or have you been covering them up?” She pointed under her eyes to indicate what she was talking about. I immediately stood up and ran to the bathroom to look in the mirror. I shouted something in surprise.

The “dots” on my face were identical to the ones on that girl's face. Based on what Mela told me, I assumed that everything up to me trying to tell her I was clocking out were real interactions I had. Especially since I have the “dots” on my face. I really needed to figure out who that girl was.

"Mela! I'm going out!" I washed my face and grabbed my stuff.

"huh?" Mela poked her head out from the kitchen.

"I said I'm leaving. I'm going home." I walked towards the door. Mela sighed.

"Alright, be safe!" Mela waved and left. I decided I was going to do my own sort of investigation to find out what's going on with me. No matter what it takes
